I got a little bit lost between the end of chapter 16 and the beginning of chapter 17. I knew that Huck and Jim had crashed into by a steamboat and had to jump over broad and all but i thought Huck just left Jim behind to go to the cabin he found in the woods. Later on i found out what really happened and how Jim got hurt and couldn't swim fast and didn't want to yell out for Huck in the fear he would be heard by the people on the steamboat. This made more sense to me because so far in the book I couldn't even see Huck just leaving Jim because I truly think that the two have become good friends, despite the color of their skin.
However I did think that this whole section of this book came completely out of no where, one minute they're just cursing down the river on their raft and the next Huck is living with some family he found in the woods and Jim is gone for awhile. I was worried about Jim for awhile there and I thought it was pure luck Huck found that family in the woods and they took Huck in as one of their own kids. I know i said this in one of my last blogs but i will always find it weird how people will just take people in that are just walking through the woods and believe whatever they tell them. But I though Huck had it pretty good where he was with the Grangerfords. Beside the fact that he was living a lie telling them he was someone completely different, he was pretty good at lying because he does it so much throughout the book it probably did affect him very much, but he was fed good and had a bed of his own and was nicely dressed. However I didn't see it coming when the whole family got into a fight with the Grangerfords and them being killed by the other family, that's was a surprise, but as soon as they started killing the Shepherdsons Huck was out of there in a hurry. I found this funny that Huck did this because at the beginning of the book him and Tom were talking about killing and robbing people and how they thought it would be fun, but when the real thing happened to Huck he ran off and was scared. I think this truly shows what type of person that Huck really is and that he is only a little boy, and sometimes i forget how young he is.
I personality like it when Huck and Jim are on the river vs. when Huck goes to land. When the two of them are on the river its very peaceful, Huck and Jim just enjoyed the river and each other. However, I did not like it when the "King and the Duke" came around. I agree with Jim that two is enough and i'm hoping that Jim is going to find a way to get rid of those two losers. Those two guys are no good and lie right out of their mouth about every little thing, I mean Huck lies just as much too so i can see how the three of them get along well. Jim knows that the guys are no good and I can tell that he wants to get rid of them but just doesn't know how. The King and the Duke I feel are going to get Huck in trouble and something bad might happen to Jim. Because I feel that every time Huck and the two losers go to land they kind of forget about Jim, even Huck.
