When i started reading chapter 12 the first thing i noticed was how Huck was talking about stealing or "borrowing" food. He went on to tell about how his pap told him that it was okay to borrow things as long as you were meaning to pay them back one day or if you gave it to someone else as a good deed. I think that Huck tells himself this stuff so he feel a little bit better about steal, because he knows that the widow taught him that borrowing stuff was still stealing and he shouldn't do it. So in this way i think that Huck does have a little bit of a guilty conscience for the things he does.
Also, when Huck and Jim sees the shipwreck Jim doesn't want to go a bored the ship at first but then Huck talks him into it. The first thing that Huck thought of when he saw the wreck was the Tom would go in an wouldn't miss his chance at an adventure like that. This lead me to wondered why does Huck look up to Tom and why does him thinking about he so much? After they were in the boat and discovered that there were other people on the boat who were a gang of robber and were planning on kill this one guy to keep his mouth shut, I found is ironic that it was the kind of the same thing that Huck and Tom were pretending to be earlier in the book and now it was actually happening to Huck.
I was shocked to read that Huck wanted to go find help for the guys they left back on the ship wreck. I think this goes back to the same thing that Huck was talking about with "borrowing" food and stuff, Huck seem to always try to turn the things he does around so he doesn't feel as bad about doing them. I kind of like this side of Huck myself because it show that he is a good person. But I think that Huck has a problem with lying because he is so good at it. He can come up with a lie right off the top of his head and i wonder if learned how to lie from Tom or maybe even his pap.
On page 86 when Huck is talking about how he had treated Jim and how it took him some time but he final went and said sorry to him for what he had done. Huck didn't care if Jim was black or not what he had done made him feel bad and like everything else Huck wanted to make things seem a little bit better then what they were so he went and said sorry. Huck says after that he wasn't sorry for apologizing to Jim and he would never play anymore mean trick on him again even he was a nigger. I think this is a prime example of how Huck starts to think differently about how niggers should be treated. Also i think this shows that Huck is a good kid even though at times it doesn't seem like it.
